Position opening: Senior Pastor (主任牧師)
This is a full-time position.
- Mission of the Senior Pastor:
The mission of the Senior Pastor in the Chinese Bible Church of Greater Lowell, CBCGL, is to shepherd CBCGL as he prayerfully leads and spiritually develops this church. By working together with the pastoral team and Elders, he is to provide vision, direction and leadership to CBCGL. As a servant leader, he is called to edify the church and glorify God by preaching and teaching Biblical truths, embodying a Christ-like example, and working together with the Holy Spirit in the transformative work of the Gospel, so that the church will be a genuine witness of Jesus Christ’s truth and love.
- Responsibilities:
- Leading
- He is to live a holy life and walk in God’s will in order to lead the church by example.
- He is to teach the Word of God as it relates to CBCGL’s vision, goals and purposes.
- CBCGL’s Vision:
- Seeking To Transform Lives and Communities
- CBCGL’s Goals: Seeing the vision fulfilled
- Through individuals and families
- By means of both our Chinese and Local Communities
- Through being Multi-lingual, Multi-generational, and Multi-cultural
- CBCGL’s Purposes:
- Convert People through Evangelism and Missions
- Build the church through spiritual formation
- Commission members through ministry and service
- Glorify God through Worship and Prayer
- Love One another through community fellowship
- He is to lead and supervise pastoral staff and office staff as a team, while supporting Elders and Deacons, so that church ministries will grow cohesively (Ephesians 4:16).
- He is to drive the church vision and direction.
- He is to promote all church ministries in accordance with church vision and direction.
- Shepherding
- He is to give attention to the spiritual condition of his own life and heart, plus that of his family.
- He is to give attention to the spiritual condition of the pastoral staff and the Church Council.
- Together with Elders and pastoral staff, he is to give attention to the overall spiritual health of all the congregations of CBCGL.
- He needs to show love and care towards the people of the church.
- Preaching
- He is to preach and teach the Word of God with clarity and boldness.
- He is to spend time and effort in preparation and study in order to deliver Biblical messages to nurture the congregations.
- Equipping
- He is to lead the pastoral staff and the congregations by teaching, mentoring and discipling them for the ministry.
- He is to utilize his leadership skills and gifts to equip others for works of ministry.
- Evangelizing
- He is to promote evangelism through personal example and equipping the church to do evangelism.
- Personal Qualifications and Experience
- Spirituality:
- He must be a man of good character and meet the biblical qualifications listed in I Peter 5:1-3, I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
- He must be growing in Christ-like character, which will be reflected in his ministry, family and social life, such as found in Galatians 5:22-23, Matthew 5:1-12, and 1 Corinthians 13:1-7.
- He must have a genuine desire to serve in a New England American Chinese church.
- He must be a man of prayer and faith, both in his personal and family life.
- He must not rely on his own personal strength but rely on God.
- Cultural Background
- He must be an individual who understands both Chinese and American culture.
- Experience
- He is to have a minimum of 5 years’ experience pastoring in North American or overseas churches; North American experience is preferred.
- Para-church experience such as serving on the mission field or seminary teaching will be seriously considered.
- Language
- Proficient in English and Mandarin; Cantonese is a plus.
- Education
- M.Div. or higher from an accredited theological seminary or equivalent of evangelical faith.
- Marital Status
- It is preferred that he is married. Marriage is defined as traditional marriage between a man and a woman.
- His spouse needs to be a devoted Christian and has God’s calling to fully support his ministry.
