Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This weekend and next, you will have the opportunity to sign a petition to repeal Chapter 188, which was signed into law by Governor Healey on August 10, and is scheduled to be implemented on Nov. 8, 2026. Chapter 188 removes the legal conditions previously required for abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy, leaving the decision to an individual doctors’ judgment and weakening oversight regarding hospital settings and medical reviews. This law removes ethical protections for viable, 24 week+ unborn babies of healthy mothers.

A statewide effort coordinated by the Compassionate Care Coalition is currently collecting signatures to suspend and repeal this law (for more information you can visit https://repeal188.com). Gathering 37,289 certified signatures will place the repeal referendum on the 2028 ballot; gathering 49,716 signatures will suspend the law prior to the 2028 vote, not allowing it to be implemented. The deadline for signatures is October 23. Signature collection will take place in the lobby and cafeteria at CBCGL this Sunday (Oct. 11) and next Sunday, October 18. Brothers and sisters who are registered voters may choose to sign.

I understand that you may be upset that our church is participating in a political act, but we are working to advocate for the lives of unborn babies through collecting signatures. This particular action is time-limited so we are aiding in the effort while there is still time to do so. You are not obligated to sign the repeal petition.

Also, this is certainly not the only political issue that matters to Christians. We care about criminal justice, care about immigration, care for those who are struggling financially due to inflation driven by war, and more. Personally, I am very concerned about the botched lethal injection of Christina Pike and the thorny ethical discussions that need to take place about what is next. I’m glad to talk with you about what concerns you.

If you want to talk, let me know. I’m working to find times to meet with / visit all the members and regular attendees of CPC so that I can help you to grow in Christlikeness. So if you hear from me, you’re not in trouble (most likely) – instead, you are loved!

Please continue to pray for the nations of Iran and Israel/Gaza and Ukraine/Russia and Sudan. May God grant peace and bring an end to these wars.

Further announcements can be found in the weekly spotlight. And other church wide announcements can be found in our weekly bulletin.

For Prayer:

1. From Bishop J.C. Ryle – “To be prayerless is to be Christless, Godless, and in the high road to destruction…It will always be found that when prayers are few, grace, strength, peace, and hope are small.” Please join our Wednesday night prayer meeting (7:45 – 9:00 pm) even if you can’t participate the whole time.
