Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This weekend, our country will commemorate Memorial Day. This is a holiday which recognizes those who have given their lives to secure the freedoms we enjoy. (Don’t confuse this with Veteran’s Day (in November). Veterans Day honors those who have served. Memorial Day honors those who have served, but didn’t come home because they gave their life in service to our country.)  It is good, and right, for us to remember those and celebrate those who have given their lives for our good. Jesus said “Greater love has no one than this, than that he lay down his life for his friends.” Their love for their fellow soldiers, their love for their family members back home, their love for those living under oppression and tyranny, was poured out in the giving of their lives. Take time today, or sometime before Tuesday, to give thanks to God for those who have given their lives so that you can enjoy the freedoms that you have.
Their sacrifice points us to the greatest sacrifice – that of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. Many men and women have died in service to our country. They gave all that they could. And we all benefit from that. But Jesus Christ didn’t die for a country. He died for all people (2 Cor. 5:14) to provide the possibility of salvation for all people (Titus 2:11). Through his death, he formed a people who are his very own, eager to do what is good. Moreover, his death provided us with freedom from sin, since we have died with him (Rom. 6). We can say “No” to our greatest enemies – our sin, world, and Satan because of the greatest act of love – the sacrificial, substitutionary death of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Also, please continue to pray for the nation of Ukraine. Here is a suggested list of prayers if you are at a loss for words in how to pray: Thank you for kneeling on behalf of the people of Ukraine and Russia, and taking a stand (or a knee in prayer) against the forces of darkness in this present age.

Administration / Events

1. We have a missions update (so check out the missions tab from the bulletin)! This week, we have an update from S and S, serving in Japan. They are currently both servants in their church and students in Seminary. They are praying for family members and for friends who have been hospitalized, but recently discharged. Please check out the tab to keep them in your prayers.

2. There is no Sunday Lunch Service this weekend, due to the Memorial Day Holiday and the cancellation of Chinese School.

3. CBCGL’s COVID-19 guidance has been updated. We still are following CDC guidance for travel and participation in activities following travel or exposure to a positive case. Please note, wearing a face mask to church is now optional.

4. All other announcements can be found here (in our CrossPoint Community bulletin).

Or are you trying to live this life without / apart from Him? Please join our Wednesday night prayer meeting (7:45 – 9:15 pm) even if you can’t participate the whole time.
