Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Father’s Day is this weekend. The sign outside of our church reads: “A Father Knows Best When He Truly Knows Jesus.” The pastoral staff take time to decide what is put out on our church sign. (If you have ideas, let me know. The sign and the message on the sign is primarily for those outside of our church.) So this week, we wanted to recognize the most important thing a father can do.
A father does play an incredibly important role in the family. Fathers are not simply supporting characters, but they help determine the shape and function of the family. In many cases, the father is a financial provider for a family. In many cases, the father also helps his kids, guides family conversations, and works to implement discipline. In some cases, the father also works to lead his family to the Lord through setting an example in faith, in speech, in life, in love, and in purity. It’s in this final role that a father knows best how to lead, support, encourage, and motivate his children.
Fathers can be great examples to their wives and kids when they admit when they are wrong. In these cases, they can seek forgiveness and work to not engage in the same error or the same sin. Through this example of repentance and forgiveness through Christ, they can work to help their kids to learn to take responsibility for their own actions, to admit when they are wrong, to seek forgiveness and the restoration of relationships. They can model that obedience to Christ is possible and preferable because it leads to a life of peace and joy and righteousness. Through the father’s commitment to Christ others in the family can understand the importance and necessity of a life of faith.
Christian fathers can point their family to Our Father in Heaven, through their godly example. In fact, it’s the most important thing they can do. Our Father in Heaven is better than any of us can imagine.

Also, please continue to pray for the nation of Ukraine. A main dam was breached last week and now up to 700,000 people are without drinking water. Here is a suggested list of prayers if you are at a loss for words in how to pray: https://send.org/story/hh_pray_for_ukraine. Thank you for kneeling on behalf of the people of Ukraine and Russia, and taking a stand (or a knee in prayer) against the forces of darkness in this present age.

The link is found below in the section on prayer.

Administration / Events

1. We have a missions update (so check out the missions tab from the bulletin)! This week, we have an update from S and S, serving in Japan. They are currently both servants in their church and students in Seminary. They are praying for family members and for friends who have been hospitalized, but recently discharged. Please check out the tab to keep them in your prayers.

2. Sunday Lunch Service is available at CBCGL with $5 lunchboxes through June 18! This week is free for fathers! To place an order, please use the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/nCwQnMruKv Orders are preferred to be placed as soon as you know, but need to be placed by Saturday night so that the kitchen can prepare the correct amount of food. Note: The selection which states “Number of Meals” refers to the cooked food/lunch box/Chinese food option.

3. CBCGL’s COVID-19 guidance has been updated. We still are following CDC guidance for travel and participation in activities following travel or exposure to a positive case. Please note, wearing a face mask to church is now optional.

4. All other announcements can be found here (in our CrossPoint Community bulletin).

For Prayer:

1. The one who lives without prayer lives as if there is no God. Truly, our time in prayer shows what we think about God! Do you see your need of Him? Or are you trying to live this life without / apart from Him? Please join our Wednesday night prayer meeting (7:45 – 9:15 pm) even if you can’t participate the whole time.
