Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I’m glad to be in the book of Mark with you. This Sunday, we are talking about Jesus’ purposeful cleansing from Mark 1:35-45. I am excited to share God’s word!
I also have other announcements for you. Tonight, there is no fellowship, due to the Labor Day Holiday weekend. There is also no regular Sunday School, but we will have a combined Sunday School in the Fellowship Hall (A-202) for anyone who comes. It will be a time of connection and prayer.
With the beginning of September, we have a number of changes in our fellowships. For example, Empower Fellowship is done for the Summer. But HBtoo! (our Saturday night Family Fellowship) meets for the first time on Sept. 9 at 5:30 pm. This year, we’ll be doing a study on Marriage, using a book by Paul Tripp.
During the Sunday School hour, we will have two Sunday Schools beginning Sept. 9. The Living Stones will be finishing up their class on Evangelism. The Grace Ambassadors will meet in Room A202 for a time of study and fellowship.

On September 17, we likely will be using the Fellowship Sanctuary, in the Fellowship Building (Bldg A) for our worship service. The reason is that the Mandarin and Cantonese congregations will have joint service with a special speaker who is likely to draw a large crowd. So, to avoid congestion in the hallways and to enable us to start our worship on time, I’ve suggested to use the Fellowship Sanctuary. We are still working on the details, but it should work for our worship service.

We are once again collecting new/used electronics for donation to Let the Needy Smile – a Christian ministry in Uganda. Collections begin this week and last until Oct. 8. If you need help resetting your device and erasing your data, we can help with that too! For more information see the second page of the church announcements in our bulletin.

You also should know that our church is presently seeking three pastors: A Cantonese Pastor, A Youth Pastor, and a Senior Pastor. Search committees have been formed for each, and we are seeking candidates. Please pray for God to raise up leaders for our church! He is faithful. He will do it.
(Some quick facts on the Pastor searches: Pastor Sean is presently serving as an Acting Senior Pastor – which is a one-year role. So we are looking for a Senior Pastor on more than a year-to-year basis. Moreover, if we had all open pastoral positions filled, we would have 6 pastoral staff. Sounds like a lot, but we have had that many as recently as last year at this time.)

Also, please continue to pray for the nation of Ukraine. Pray that they would cease bringing the war to Russia – because there are no winners in a war. Here is a suggested list of prayers if you are at a loss for words in how to pray: https://send.org/story/hh_pray_for_ukraine. Thank you for kneeling on behalf of the people of Ukraine and Russia, and taking a stand (or a knee in prayer) against the forces of darkness in this present age.

This Week (Sept. 1- Sept. 7, 2023):

1. Tonight, Sept. 1, 2023, all church fellowships are cancelled due to the Labor Day Holiday.

2. The Living Stones Sunday School and Empower Sunday School are meeting this Sunday in a combined Sunday school in the Fellowship Hall (A202). Hope you can join us!

3. This Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023, at 11:25 am, Pastor Nathan Willems will be preaching. Pray for him! Join us for worship at CBCGL!

For Prayer:

From Bishop J.C. Ryle – “To be prayerless is to be Christless, Godless, and in the high road to destruction…It will always be found that when prayers are few, grace, strength, peace, and hope are small.” Please join our Wednesday night prayer meeting (7:45 – 9:15 pm) even if you can’t participate the whole time.
